Fatherhood Snoop-Dogg Style

A few years ago, when gangster rap was having its hey day, very few would have fathomed Snoop Dogg as a  father, let alone a role model, and let alone on daytime programming on one of the lilyest channels of all . But reality television has changed everything. Meet Calvin Broadus, devoted father of three as seen on the rapper’s new T.V. show “Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood”. That’s fatherhood uncompounded. Watch as the househelp throws a tantrum, Snoopy Pooh vaccuums the house, goes to the doctor for a check-up, and does, well, normal gangster rapper stuff.

This show would have fit better with VH1′s fare or with BET. Instead it’s on ultra lily E! Not that this poses a dilemma. With Rev Run’s Run’s House already on its roster, could VH1 have been able to brand “Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood” adequately? BET, for its part, is enjoying phenomenal success with “Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is”, so perhaps Snoop’s show is not out of place at all.

A cynic could say that ”Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood”  is yet another avenue of self-promotion for the rapper. But as he rummages through the small screen enthusing over kid’s football games and push up tournaments with his surprisingly tame brood that includes his two sons (Cordé, Cordell) and daughter (Cori) imperious wife Shantay, (alias Boss Lady), it’s clear, to say the list, that the gangster has grown up, and that Snoop is making an Ice Cube-like transition to respectability.
